These certificates are available in different
forms. A file size, which is most commonly used, a wallet size which
is normally obtained for birth certificate personal records, and
certified long form documents, which are normally used for out of
country documentation.
Death certificates (uncertified) are public information.
Any size birth or marriage certificate will require consent from
one of the parties on the certificate in question, the mother or
father of a child under 18, or next of kin with affidavit stating
relationship in any other situation.
The normal turnaround time is approximately 3 week.
Birth certificates are available from 1920, marriage certificates
from 1965 and death certificates from 1980. Any certificates prior
to these dates would require approximately 6 weeks to obtain. Any
recent certificates (within 3 months of issuance) may also take
6 weeks as they may or may not have been entered into the computer
system.
Information Required:
Birth certificate - child's full name, date of birth, full name
including maiden name of mother, full name of father, place of birth,
relationship to person involved, reason for request.
Marriage certificate - full name of bride and groom
including all previous names, date of marriage, place of marriage,
relationship to persons involved, reason for request.
Death certificate - Full name of deceased including
all previously used names, date of death, place of residence at
time of death, full name of parents (if available), relationship
to person involved, reason for request.
